ALAPPUZHA AND KUMARAKOM

Kuttanad
The paddy fields below sea level are inter connected with backwater cannals. Four rivers combine in Kuttanad. A hardworking agrarian community lives there. Coconut trees lined in the banks of canals, kuttanadan ducks are the main attractions. Fishing and shell collection are another engagements of local people. Small boats, motor boats, houseboats are common in this land. Kuttanadan foods sucha as rice, tapioca , fish, duck etc.are famous. Toddy from coconut,Neera,a health drink are also available. Churches like St.Marys church, Champakulam, St.George church, Edathua, Chavara Bhavan in Kainakary are famous pilgrim centres in Kuttanad. Temples like Ambalapuzha Srikrishna temple, Chakkulathukavu devi temple known as womens’ sabarimala are the important Temples. Thakazhy museum, Karumadikuttan, Kunchannambiar smarakam Ambalappuzha are the important historical monuments connected to kuttanad. There are interconnected roads and cannals across the kuttanad and this is helpful to visitors.

Fort Kochi
Following are the major attractions of Fort Kochi. Historic town Fort Kochi, Fort Emmanual, the remains of portugees existance- Built in 1503, Dutch cemetery- consecrated in 1724, ancient Takur house formely known as hill benglow. Now it belongs to takur and company. David hall was built in 1695 by Dutch East India Company. Parade ground- the ground where the Portugeese,the Dutch and the British once conducted military parade. The St. Francis church, the oldest European church in india was built in 1503 by Portugeese. It was in this church that Vascodagama had been buried. His tombstone is still there. The church road, cochin club , the Bastion Banglow which was built in 1667, the Pierce Leslie Banglow , the princes street and Loafers corner are some of the historic remains. The Santa cruz basilica, the historic church built by Portgeese is a Basalica since 1984. In the rose street there is the vasco house which is believed to be the residence of Vascode gama.

Bolgatty island in kochi
Bolgatty palace is situated in kochi and itwas built in 1744 by Dutch and later taken over by the British. This palace is now used as hotels run by kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC). Special honeymoon cottages and resorts are available there for tourists.

Munnar
Munnar is situated in 1600 mtrs above sea level. The major attractions are tea plantation, flora in the forests grass lands and the famous Neelakurinji with blue flowers,it is in blossom only once in every twelve years. Anamudi, the highest peak in south india is situated here.

Thekkady
Thekkady is one of the finest wild life reserves in India.
Periyar forest, hills, elephants,spices,plantations,Flora, and Fauna are the main attractions of thekkady. Different species of birds, reptiles, amphibians, variety of fishes in the lake and streams are the other attractions of Thekkady.

Boating on Periyar lake, watch towers in the forest, tea,cardamom, pepper and coffee plantions are the speciality of thekkady. Periyar tiger reserve is a famous destination. Periyar wildlife sanctuary, elepant rides, cruisers in the lake, trucking to the Mangaladevi Temple are also possible there.
